Croatia and the EU

Croatia and the EU

Croatiafocus has been in the forefront of analysing EU policy towards Croatia. The work done on this topic has helped inform many, especially Croat associations around the world. EU policy towards Croatia is based on 'Western Balkans' approach with 'regional co-operation' at its centre. This deeply flawed policy seems more concerned with creating a 'mini - EU' of ex-Yugoslav states minus Slovenia plus Albania than allowing Croatia to join the EU. The de facto open borders policy approach of 'regional co-operation' within the 'Western Balkans' will benefit organised crime, helping make Croatia a conduit for illegal immigration into the EU. Whilst this policy holds, Croatia's chances of joining the EU - should it continue to wish to - will be slim. Click here for related articles

Bosnia-Herzegovina

Bosnia-Herzegovina

Croatiafocus looks at issues in neighbouring Bosnia-Herzegovina (BiH), particularly relating to the status of Croats. We have examined the situation of Croats in the Muslim-Croat federation and warned of the possible problems that relative Croat prosperity may cause without appropriate political representation. Croatiafocus also examines Paddy Ashdown's role in BiH, uniquely comparing his policies in the United Kingdom to his policies in BiH. Such analysis has been covered in the BiH press. Croatiafocus advocates devolutionary policies for BiH - a key Ashdown policy in the UK. Click here for related articles

Gotovina

Gotovina and the war crimes tribunal

Croatiafocus's Brian Gallagher has extensively written for the Ante Gotovina website -set up by General Gotovina's legal team. These articles have been at the forefront of revealing the serious flaws in the indictment; how it contradicts the Milosevic indictment, the statements of Hague Prosecutor staff and witnesses that contradict the indictment and the prosecution use of a Greater Serbia advocate and former occupation official in Croatia as one of their top advisers. Issues arising from these articles have been covered in the Croatian press. Click here for related articles

NATO

Croatia and NATO

We were first to consider the implications of NATO's regional approach for Croatian membership. We have discussed whether intentional political developments mean NATO is actually a club worth joining. Click here for related articles
